I'm Going to Watch The Bachelor...

Yes, I am. I know it is completely lame. It is silly and appeals to base, simplistic ideas about attraction and what men and women want from one another...but, it's The Bachelor and I saw the first episode and know who's who. And, he's British and is from London and has a brilliant accent and a dry sense of humor...

Me: Oooo! The Bachelor is on in 10 minutes--we can watch that!

Husband: YOU can watch that.

Me: Why not you too?

Husband: Because it's sexist and degrading to women.

OK. Who's the enlightened one around here? I guess it's not me...

Ouch!

Does he have to remind you (frequently) that makeup is stupid and unnecessary? 'Cuz my hubby does. Humbling, that. Especially when standing in the middle of the cosmetics department full of other women. *blush*

No. He doesn't care if I wear mascara or not. I have very light eyelashes and you can't even see them when I don't wear makeup, which really would be OK, but I like my lashes to show!

I used to not wear makeup in high school when I was discovering just how jive the patriarchy and corporate pressures on definitions of femininity were, and then I realized that humans have always decorated themselves in various ways and it didn't seem like such a big deal then.

I'm still a fabulous babe even if you can't see my lashes! But, I'm a Goddess with my darkened lashes!

It's not that he doesn't want me to wear it (although that is how I made it sound). He just completely does not care. And can't understand why I get all in a tizzy in the makeup isle searching desperately for anything without parabens, when makeup itself is such a non-issue.

May lashes are the same... actually dark at the base, though, so they just look stubbly. They are loverly with mascara, though. ;)
